“Porcelain” – Moby
This one is more of an introspective love song, dealing with the subject not from how you feel about another person, but where it’s coming from within you, right down to its most base roots–jealousy, fear, loneliness. The words are harried and sad, but you wouldn’t get that from the content and sleepy music. This is one of the greatest songs ever, due in no small part to dat synth pad.

“The Simultaneous Occurrence of True Love and Nausea…” – Simon Joyner
Maybe you’re in love and having a great time, maybe you’re lonely and miserable about it, either way, this valentines day just chill out and eat a burger because chances are you’ll be feeling differently in a month or two. This Simon Joyner track immortalizes a moment a lot of us have had.

“I Don’t Want Love” – The Antlers
Well, I guess it’s the perfect song for anybody who hates V-Day? That’s too easy an explanation, especially considering how fake holidays are- especially this one. Anyway, this is a beautiful song, because The Antlers are fucking awesome.

“Love” – Delicate Steve
Delicate Steve doesn’t need any sappy lyrics about love to show they can express it. This song is guaranteed to make you feel warm and loved.

“Still Flat” – Built to Spill
I was at In Your Ear a couple years back and found a compilation record titled, Red, Hot and Bothered: The Indie Rock Guide to Dating, Volume 2. It had really awesome album packaging, an actual zine with dating advice, and an alternative version of the Built to Spill song “Still Flat” performed by Doug and his friends in Caustic Resin, so I bought it. “Still Flat” reminds me of every relationship I’ve ever been in: they go nowhere, leaving me still feeling empty and alone, and I just give up. Happy Valentine’s Day to all the empty loners. You’re not alone.

“Thinking of You” – Test Your Reflex
Two parts sweet, one part pragmatism, three parts fun. This track is about lovers who are being separated but refuse let it get them down. If you can listen to this and not smile and wiggle a little dance….have fun dying alone.
Ellie Molitor
“Fuck & Run” – Liz Phair
It’s becoming cliche to recognize one’s cliche-ness, so just read the lyrics and go fuck yourself or something.
Bianca Rullo
“Awkward” – FIDLAR
If you’re spending Valentine’s Day by yourself wondering why you weren’t bold enough to ask out the person you spend most of your day thinking about, you’re not alone. Put down the cheap wine and rom-coms, turn up the FIDLAR.

“I Won’t Share You” – The Smiths
Morrisey is everybody’s favorite romantic for his can do attitude and positive outlook on love and life. No but all jokes aside, here’s a song where it sounds like Morrisey might have actually gotten what he wanted this time.
Marc Finn
“No Pussy Blues” – Grinderman
Not to disparage any of my flimsy-hearted coworkers, but Nick Cave’s method of coping with loneliness is by far the most fun/dangerous/scary. This is for us, creepy folks. We earned this.

“When We First Kissed” – Hellogoodbye
You would never admit to listening to this band, but “Would It Kill You” was a completely underrated record, and this song shows why. It mentions Valentine’s too, so it’s eligible for this list. Or he might be saying “Allentown,” like the city in Pennslyania. But based on the title I’m guessing it’s the former.

“I Only Have Eyes For You” – The Flamingos
& “Lust for Life” – Girls
