We’ve said it once, we’ve said it twice, and we’ll sure as hell say it a third time until everyone believes us: there isn’t any record label who nails their roster quite like Exploding In Sound. Alongside Speedy Ortiz, Krill, and Pile, the label also has New York’s lo-fi rockers LVL UP on board — and the band’s newest single will have you clicking on repeat as soon as it ends.
“Soft Power” sees LVL UP delivering a scratchy guitar song whose slow start soon erupts into a fuzz twirl for communal head banging. Dave Benton’s deadpan vocals give an alluring spine to the piece as it becomes tougher and tougher, eventually becoming what sounds like a lost Weezer track. In a few weeks, we’ll get to hear even more of this, too. The band’s sophomore LP, Hoodwink’d, comes out September 23 on Double Double Whammy and Exploding in Sound.
