“It Was A Very Hard Year,” the second available track off Kal Marks’ three-song EP Just A Lonely Fart, is officially streaming via IMPOSE, and it’s heavy with existentialism. So, before listening, make sure you have self-questions prepared.

Just A Lonely Fart, set to fully release December 2nd, sits as the Boston rock trio’s 2014 project. With a title both relatable in its humor and intriguing in its singularity, the EP marks a relentlessness within Kal Marks’ songwriting, for it’s seemingly even more raw that last year’s LIFE IS MURDER. Just from the evidence of October-released track “Zimmerman” and now-released “It was a Very Hard Year,” that much is proven.

Clocking out around six minutes, the new track carries momentum from start to finish. Lead singer Carl Shane’s voice takes a refreshingly active role alongside steady guitar fuzz, creating a tone reflective of the feeling of ripping a book in half and… regretting ripping a book in half. It’s rough and emotional, but literary in context. All of which comprise a likeable list of traits that any lonely fart would take to.

So check out “It Was A Very Hard Year” whether you agree with the track’s title or not, and hit up Obrien’s Pub on December 3rd to see Kal Marks live along with Krill, Big Ups and Washer. Be where? Be there.
