After thorough deliberation and consultation with Austin officials since this morning’s tragedy at SXSW, SXSW, Mohawk, and Cheer Up Charlie’s have decided to open for business this evening (Mar. 13) at 7 p.m. for their scheduled showcases.

According to SXSW Founder Roland Swenson, this is “the most prudent course of action” Officials involved deduced that closings or cancellations would create additional crowd issues of those planning on attending events this evening.

In light of this tragedy, SXSW and the City of Austin has created a relief fund for the victims. “We are a community here that exists far beyond the 10 days of SXSW,” said Mohawk owner James Moody.

The SXSW Cares Fund will help those affected by this morning’s events. Funds will be disbursed to those most affected via a community-based process created by SXSW representatives, the Austin Convention Center, and the City of Austin.
