The Jellyfish Brothers might sound familiar to you, and you wouldn’t be wrong – Allston Pudding first featured them in the inaugural post of our “America’s Most Underrated” column. Signed to Boston’s own BUFU Records, the Miami trio have much more in common with Boston than their name and aura implies.

The Jellyfish Brothers produce a unique blend of slimy, uneven surfer rock with hints of electronic pop pulling the songs back together as the rugged riffs almost fall to pieces. Gleefully distorted, the vocals seem to shout at you, begging you to listen. Real-life brothers, Greg and Eddy Alvarez have pushed Miami’s music scene into view with their EP Sentinels Of The Space Age, released last year. And they’ve been hard at work since then.

In anticipation of their upcoming release Hyper Light Drifter, the brothers have put together quite the interesting video for a single from the album, “Silly Boi.” The video is full of saturated colors and rolling backdrops, creating an atmosphere that would only exist if Grand Theft Auto met the 8-bit world. Though not properly cited as an influence, the video emits hip-hop vibes as the brothers cruise down a nondescript tropical highway, one shouting repetitive lines through the glare created by his sunglasses while the other plays with a pocket knife, picking at his fingernails or combing his bald scalp with it. The Jellyfish Brothers want you to know they’re rough around the edges, but they still enjoy a good sunset. Check out the video for “Silly Boi” below and pick up Hyper Light Drifter when it comes out May 16th via BUFU.
