We’ve heard a few similar stories by now: a young, talented Boston rapper (and songwriter, producer, etc.) has trouble getting their career off the ground in their hometown – no matter how hard they hit the grind – so they pickup and move to a city that is more nurturing of its rap artists. New York, LA, Atlanta; plenty of homegrown Boston talent has felt the need to replant their roots elsewhere. And who can blame them? With plenty of ongoing dialogue about the current state of hip-hop show booking in Boston (c.f. last month’s piece by Amelia Mason from WBUR’s Artery), it’s not surprise to see once-local acts gain recognition after they’ve relocated.

Riggz Two Nice is one of the latest Bostonians to make the move down to ATL, doing so at the beginning of 2019. The man does it all: a drummer since he was a kid, he added rapping, singing, and piano to his repertoire as he matured, as well as the ability to craft his own beats. He makes that bombastic style of rap that celebrates the success of working tirelessly to achieve your goals. The music’s dripping in swag, making it great if you need some pump-me-up motivational jams.

In November of 2018, he released an EP with the timely title of “Last Day of November,” which in many ways turned out to be a swan song to his life in Boston to that point. Now in Atlanta, he hasn’t missed a step in keeping hard at work, releasing a slew of videos to accompany the tracks from the album. The latest one, for a track called “Big Break,” Riggz and his team got out of the city to add some down-home country flare, filming in front of abandoned buildings and left-behind school buses and semis trucks, as well as Keep a close eye out for the best shot, which features a cheeky UFO fly behind Riggz. There are also some cool psychedelic effects layered onto the ground and sky, turning a simple country excursion into a light trip.

The video was shot by Zona Simz, edited by Lenny Coote, and the track itself was produced by Mike “Juice God” White. You can watch below. If you dig the song and video, be sure to follow Riggz Two Nice on his social channels to keep up with any and all live performances he’s got coming up. He’ll be back in Boston soon enough; after all, you can take the man out of Boston, but you can’t take Boston out of the man.
