Earlier this month Horse Jumper of Love pit-stopped at Neverland before they hit the road supporting Strange Mangers. Their set alone made that night one of the best basement shows I’ve seen all summer. The trio, Dimitri Giannopoulos (vocals, guitar), Jamie Vadala-Doran (drums), and John Margaris (bass), are three talented and endearing goofballs – and it’s about time you got to know them.
Horse Jumper of Love, the name originates from an old Roman poem by Ovid, is two parts nu-gaze and one part experimental indie rock. The trio has spent the better part of this year writing and recording for a formal EP debut (that we hope to see this Fall). That said, with only a small handful of demos posted the only way for you to hear what HJOL is really about is to see them live. Until now.
Fitz Ross Productions just released a cut from a live session recorded a few weeks ago featuring “Orange Peeler.” Here, Giannopoulos sings about eggshells and that time a nameless man planted his wisdom teeth in the backyard and orange trees sprouted. That kick-ass instrumental breakdown from 5:20 onward better make it onto the EP…just my 2-cents.
Watch the live session of “Orange Peeler” below and catch them this Sunday (ask a thief for that addy).
*Stay tuned to AP for a photo diary from their tour with Strange Mangers.
