Allston Pudding is pleased to present a series of videos captured live from this year’s Thing in the Spring in Peterborough, New Hampshire. These videos come to us from the newly established Pony Problems Productions, a video production house launched from the Western Mass-based record label TinyRadars.
Starting this series off in the biggest way possible, the first video we have to present is a takeaway version of “Bump a Grape” from Pile’s Rick Maguire. Pile, who released their latest album Dripping last fall, are one of Allston’s most revered DIY vets. There’s a reason that they are your favorite local band’s favorite band and it’s because they mix the energy and aggression of your standard basement rock group, but add an unbeatable element of introspectiveness in their songwriting. Maguire’s lyrics reflect youthful and angsty poeticism– telling vivid stories from angles others might not touch. These sentiments shine through beautifully in the intimate acoustic setting of this video. Check it out above, and check out Dripping when you have a chance (also, Magic Isn’t Real, which is one of the best albums Boston has produced in years).
Stay tuned over the next six weeks, as we will have another video from this series every Monday. If you like this one, just wait ’til ya see what else is in store!
