Boston queer cello-rock band Prior Panic formed in 2016 when cellist/vocalist Julia Fulbright began making electronic solo material under the name. Since then, the project has evolved into a cello-featured, melody-driven indie-rock trio, featuring Otto Klammer on guitar and Zachary Ellsworth on drums. Several lineup changes have helped form the band’s impressively dynamic and cohesive sound, the culmination of which is featured on their upcoming record “Finicky Things,” which releases on March 30th (but you can listen to a single from the record here).
We got the chance to talk to the band while they were recording at the Record Company last month with producer Nate Patsfall of Artifact Recording (Dazey and the Scouts, Elizabeth Colour Wheel, Mail Thief) at the board. We discussed Vienna Lady Fingers, the history of the band, writing style, and the logistics of recording and playing electric cello. We were also fortunate to film them performing a new song from the record called “Farewell ADLs,” at their practice space in Brighton. Check out the full Artist Profile documentary below:
Don’t miss Prior Panic’s release show on 3/30, and check out their record when it drops!
