Waxahatchee Announces New Album Ivy Tripp, Shares First Single

Waxahatchee ivy trip

Lo-fi indie rocker and singer-songwriter Katie Crutchfield aka Waxahatchee has announced a brand new album titled Ivy Tripp due out April 7 via Wichita Recordings. The title describes the”directionless-ness” people between their 20s-40s face when feeling separated from their parents. “I have thought of it like this: Cerulean Salt is a solid and Ivy Tripp is a gas,” Crutchfield added. “A running theme [of Ivy Tripp] is steadying yourself on shaky ground and reminding yourself that you have control in situations that seem overwhelming, or just being cognizant in moments of deep confusion or sadness, and learning to really feel emotions and to grow from that.”

The first single, “Air”, is up for streaming today. It sees her using muted guitar and soft drumming to support lofty, downtrodden lyrics. Give it a spin below.

As per usual, with new music comes new live shows. Waxahatchee will be touring through Europe and North America extensively, including a stop in Boston to play The Sinclair on May 13 with Girlpool. Given how good she sounded last time she was here, this is a show not to be missed.
