It’s hard to ignore Donald Grunge. The Chelsea-native’s relentless flow and infectious melodies have made him a fan favorite in Boston’s flourishing underground hip hop scene. Grunge is one of the most exciting rap artists and producers to call Massachusetts home, joining the ranks of Lord Felix, Jiles, and Connis.
VACANT is Grunge’s most recent endeavour and the culmination of 6 months of collaboration with producer/singer glvsshouse. Without fail, each of the 6 tracks is a banger. The new project showcases the dynamics of both artists ranging from the melancholic and driving “Grave,” featuring Misery Club’s Zubin, to the boisterous single “Strangest.” The project is a welcome addition to the growing list of mid-pandemic releases, promising to satiate hungry listeners while the reemergence of live shows remains uncertain.
Another notable release is the 2019 single “Gnarly,” an earworm that is catchier and goes harder than most mainstream rappers and producers. Donald Grunge is consistently outdoing himself, amping up his production, his vocals, and his lyrical capabilities while still staying true to who he is as an artist. His tireless work-ethic and energy definitely make him an artist to watch in the latter half of 2020.
