ZUMIX Promotes Fundraising Campaign During Tough Times

ZUMIX Sing A Song Send A Song

In the past few weeks (and sadly, more to come), a lot of people have been forced to spend their birthdays indoors, either alone or with a small cohort of people they live with under quarantine. No big parties, no fun outings, no hitting their favorite bar with besties. Sorry to those Pisces, Aries, and (soon-to-be) Taureans who haven’t been able to feel that bday love.

At the beginning of April, ZUMIX celebrated its 29th birthday. Unfortunately, like so many other businesses and organizations, ZUMIX had to close its doors due to the outbreak of COVID-19; however, they’ve been able to keep their work active by moving to virtual lessons and education. If you’re unfamiliar with the work that they do there, it’s an organization based in East Boston that dedicates itself to youth music education, providing lessons, classes, and a shared space where young people can develop their skills in performance and production, as well as meeting like-minded folks who are all intensely passionate about music.

To help fundraising efforts amidst the outbreak, ZUMIX has kickstarted a viral series called “Sing A Song, Send a Song.” The premise is simple: record yourself singing a song (original or cover), tag a few friends who would be interested in joining, then make a small donation to help ZUMIX stay afloat. So far in support of the campaign, people have made over 60 videos, with roughly 150 donations and $6,000 raised. On top of that, local musician Will Dailey dedicated one of his recent virtual Isolation Tour performances to ZUMIX, adding another $4,000 to the total funds raised. Each show of the tour was dedicated to raising money to donate to affected staff from some of Boston’s best venues.

Allston Pudding is proud to accept the challenge and get involved. Check out our social media channels over the next couple of days to see some of our staff members taking part. If you’re inspired to sing and donate too, don’t wait for the tag: grab your favorite instrument and belt out a classic fave. Don’t worry, it’s for a good cause; no one’s going to judge your singing voice!

Even if you’re camera shy, please consider donating to this fantastic organization that’s dedicated itself to getting Boston’s local youth involved in music.
