Unashamedly poetic, Jakals premiere their latest release, “It’s All The Same” with a live video to boot via Allston Pudding today, May 4th, 2018. Clocking in at just over six minutes, the track seamlessly intertwines melody and melancholy from the start in a song that covers tough stuff, to put it lightly.
“‘It’s All the Same’ deals with the feeling of losing yourself in the midst of an addiction,” the band’s vocalist, Katie Solomon, explains. “It explores the profound disconnect that occurs after returning to reality, and how isolating it can be to realize that the world continues moving without you.”
It’s an incredibly relevant topic that’s rarely easy to cover, and Jakals tackle it the only way they know how– a deep dive. The lyrics are honest in true Jakals fashion, facing a subject like addiction squarely. In the video, recorded at Mad Oak Studios (Allston, MA) by Benny Grotto and Alec Hutson, Solomon appears totally in her element and her band is well-equipped to support her, sharply outfitted with Guild and Fender hollow-body guitars, full of sustain and sparkle.
Yet, in a song that echoes with pain, they’ve created something beautiful, shareable. The band fuses Solomon’s ever-aching vocals– which have been rightfully compared to the likes of Kate Bush and Florence Welch– with driving instrumentals from the five-piece band’s two guitarists (Jack Lewis and Bredon Jones), bassist Zach Wulderk, and drummer Teryn Citino.
Boston-based, this group of artists has been steadily playing shows around the city and Northeast over the last year after the release of their our debut album, Keep Mother Sane (2017). So be sure to keep an eye out for their upcoming EP, and the next nearby gig. Watch the live video for “It’s All the Same” below.
