God damn, the dudes at Boston Hassle know their shit! The non-profit, volunteer run arts organization includes their website, Boston Hassle, show curation, and distribution of the Boston Compass paper. The mission statement: “Foster an innovative, compelling, and interconnected music, art, and film community in the greater Boston area through grassroots and inclusive participatory culture”. If you haven’t already, go check the website: it’s well laid out, easy to navigate between new, yet-to-be discovered music/art/film from Boston and local scenes everywhere, and includes an up-to-date comprehensive events listing that shows just how engaged the Boston arts scene is, oh, and hit it up if you want to get involved with the organization yourself!

This Saturday, May 24, in participation with underground show bookers B.O.W. Shows, the Hassle is putting on Boston Underground Summit 7 at Cambridge Elks Lodge. The event kicks off at 7pm and runs till 11pm, is on a sliding scale for entrance $7-$10, and is open to all ages. What is the underground summit? Have you seen Scott Pilgrim vs The World? The scene where the Sex Bob-ombs battle the Katayanagi twins, and at first the twins blow the roof off the venue, literally blow the roof off, but then Scott is all like fuck that- mostly because he wants to win Ramona from Gideon, but also because he loves to rock- and he plugs back in and the Sex Bob-ombs soncially summon a crazed abominable snow man type beast to fight the Katayanagi dragon twins and the persistent rocking of the Bob-ombs finally ends in the giant ape bashing the skulls of the dragons together… sweet victory for Scott and his band. Ok so yea the undergound summit will be just like that, only friendlier! As in no one is looking to bash in any skulls, not to say that there won’t be any head banging. But actually, the summit occurs when Boston Hassle collects a handful of up-and-coming musicians/performers/artists and positions them in the Lodge with a few PAs. The performers take turns playing songs one after another. Then, after all the performers have played a song, the loop repeats, until the show ends. Back to back art, from a variety of genres and performance styles.
