When Lady Lamb the Beekeeper last strolled through Boston, a large number of us were there in attendance, pledging an allegiance to the Maine native. Her live shows have a raw ripeness to them that’s so visceral it makes missing her next show impossible. Then when she took the time to be interviewed, it became clear Aly Spaltro, the brains behind the band, is more than just a musician. She understands music’s ropes through and through.
Today, Lady Lamb the Beekeeper announced she will release a brand new album on March 3 via Mom + Pop Records titled After. It serves as the follow-up to 2013′s excellent Ripely Pine. She’s returning with a full band, throwing down reverb guitar and shrieking vocals with an endearing, creative structure. She’s shared the lead single, “Billions of Eyes”, which immediately distinguishes her new sound from the old. The long, withering notes of 2013 are replaced with beach bum guitar and the ease of a normal verse-chorus-verse structure. It isn’t all new, though. She’s still tossing out gritty, sharp images like “gnawing [her] way back home” in a song about travel. Things are changing for Spaltro, and we’re all too eager to hear how the rest goes.
Listen to the track below. If you like what you hear, grab a ticket for her show at The Sinclair next year on March 7.
