Weather

If there’s one thing we’ve had a lot of recently, it’s weather. But whether you like the snow or not, you can weather these storms with some friendly people called Weather.

Whoa now—let’s take a step back. You might be familiar with the Boston-meets-Brooklyn-based band Friendly People. What you might not know is that the folk-rock group recently opted to switch their name to Weather. It feels all too appropriate given the current state of Boston that the band will head to Great Scott on the 18th, to deliver a show with Alpenglow, Babydriver and Covey.

We caught up with the band via email and played a bit of a name game. The results explain their name change, where “Weather” originated, and some wild acrostic poems:

Allston Pudding: First off, why’d you decide to change your name?

Weather: We’ve all played together in different forms over the last number of years, and we have recently landed with a solidified lineup and sound. Our direction is a lot more defined, and we feel like a different band than where we started. We felt it was an appropriate time for a name change to represent where we are now.

AP: How did you come up with the name?

Weather: It’s simple and ambiguous and we love how open-ended it can be interpreted.

AP: How did you originally come up with the name Friendly People?

Weather: Friendly People spawned from a song that Pat wrote called “Friendly People,” and it fit well with what we were doing at the time.

AP: If you could have any other name, what would it be?

Weather:

Davis – Rebecca

Mitch – Stitchell Mewart

Pat – Dad?

Jeff – Buck “Star Wars” Flanders

Colin – Inigo Montoya

AP: Here’s the tricky part. Can each of you write an acrostic poem using the name of another band member?

Colin by Davis:

Cool as my daddy

On christmas morning

Lounging in his pajamas

Id kiss him,

No Doubt

Jeff by Mitch:

Jeffery can jump so

Effortlessly well into a tub of

French onion soup

Forgot about trying to make this rhyme, did I mess this up? k thanks bye

Mitch by Pat:

Magic lingers

In the air.

The man

Called Mitch

Has great hair.

Davis by Jeff:

Decided ginger, with

All the beats, whose

Vibe knowledge is royal, you

Issue the best, guess

Sage of the rest, presided

Pat by Colin:

Patrick is a dude

And never is he rude

There’s really no one like him, I’ve never seen him nude
