Los Angeles is a unique place–a polluted kingdom populated with jaded creative types as far as the eye can see. Perhaps stereotypically, the west coast boasts sun-drenched music and aggressively lazy rhythms; marry that with the muddy, lo-fi grunge inspired sound finding roots in the east coast, and you get the likes of Girlpool.
With dueling vocals from the two ladies that make up Girlpool, “Before The World Was Big” feels like a song that’s uncertain of its place in the world; appropriate as the lyrics explore adolescence and what it means to grow up. The title track from their upcoming release, Before The World Was Big will come as Girlpool’s full-length debut. They’ve pieced together a video for the song, with faded, choppy jump cuts of two members, Cleo Tucker and Harmony Tividad. The video appears almost like a home video from their childhood, with sun-baked innocence and giggle-filled skipping around, keeping in line with the theme of the song.
