A few weeks ago, Ultra Deluxe stopped by Labrinth Audio, a recording studio in Peabody who were kind enough to invite us in to track, film, and mix this session. We were lucky enough to film three songs and talk to the band for this special edition video session!
Ultra Deluxe began as the solo project of Max Narotzky (they/them) in 2015, with the lineup expanding to include Erik Torres (he/him) on bass and drums in the spring of 2018. The two knew each other well, having been college roommates, and even touring together in separate bands in the past. Ultra Deluxe takes an experimental approach to screamo, with electronics at the forefront of their sound, and a unique approach to songwriting.
With their future releases, they plan to focus their efforts on the continuation of the Contact Saga, a story that tackles themes of colonialism, anti-imperialism, xenophobia, and queer identity through the lense of a dystopian future, a tyrannical government, and the rebel alliance working against it.
Watch the video to see the chaos pop duo in action, and catch them on tour this spring! Take it from us – they are not to be missed.
