For the past few years, Haasan Barclay has been steadily building his repertoire as a genre-defying singer and instrumentalist. With his tunes treading ground between dreamy psychedelic R&B and guitar-driven alternative rock, Barclay has carved out a unique sound for himself. Last time we caught up with him, he was getting ready to drop his EP 800 Fantasy Lane, which released to positive reviews and saw the musician make strides forward as a songwriter and producer.
During his four song set for Allston Pudding, Barclay performed a new song, “NPC,” which premiered on BBC1 on Tuesday. Rapper Shaka Dendy and DJ Matthew Thornton also joined Barclay to perform songs as Camp Blood. Together, they’ve been working on new music to release and perform their harsh, heavy hip-hop that is drenched with the same fervent energy as Yeezus era Kanye and hardcore punk. The group had their live debut at a show at the Sinclair in December, opening for Bad Rabbits and STL GLD. The recent work with Camp Blood has excited Barclay. “I feel like I finally have an outlet to push out even harsher sounds and emotions.” Eager to bring both new solo material and Camp Blood to the stage, expect to see Haasan Barclay on some exciting show rosters in 2019 and beyond.
