Leading up to the release of the Momentary Lapse of Happily full-length, Adult Mom dropped the first single from the album via Stereogum today. “Survival” is somewhat like what you’d expect following up on Adult Mom’s previous releases, with Steph Knipe’s simple lyricism conquering heavy topics of discussion. In the interview with Stereogum, Knipe explained “Survival” was written while they were coming out, which is apparent in their open and emotional lyrics like, “I hope that in a year, I’m not a bad queer.”
Adult Mom is like a lovechild of Palehound and Waxahatchee, with powerful pop punk that could have been created on a laptop in a magical bedroom somewhere. Just to add to the intrigue, Knipe said the album was recorded “at a place that I can’t talk about.”
Don’t forget to check out the single on Stereogum. If you like what you hear, you can pre-order the album before its July 28 release from Tiny Engines.
