Hankering for some new tunes to add to your ever-growing collection? Well, who could say no to this doe-eyed British trio? (Pun intended.) Doe have emerged from the London woods to add some delightful upbeat indie pop to your library. Inspired by classic Riot Grrrl groups like Sleater-Kinney and The Breeders, whose influence is evident in the captivating juxtaposition of the throbbing, electrifying guitar riffs and fragmented, bitingly halcyon vocals, Doe brings a refreshing flavor of girl-fronted pop.
Their debut album is set to be released February 24th, pulling pieces from previously released EPs to form one smooth, exuberant LP. Frontwoman Nicola Leel introduces complexities into the assumed simplicity the small name implies. But there is nothing small about Doe- their melodies reach ambitiously high in a syncopated collage of rhythms, fusing Leel’s carefree, sugar sweet voice with this-means-business instrumentation. Elements of nerd rock and pop punk find themselves in Doe’s music as well, with the lackadaisical, easygoing co-ed harmonies and poignant yet buoyant lyrics.
Just before their album is set to be released, Doe are leaving the United Kingdom for a brief tour throughout New York- hopefully the snow will be gone by then- including a show at Shea Stadium.
