On the last weekend of August, just days before a rush of new college students would flood into Boston for move in day, Ezra Cohen played O’Brien’s Pub. He was joined by a mixture of solo artists and bands including Small Songs (Christine Atturio of Save Ends), Special Moves, and Me in Capris.
Cohen and Small Songs were the bill’s two solo artists, both taking to the stage stage with just their guitars, and both playing great sets. Touring in support of the short solo album he released back in February, Cohen played a stripped down performance that perfectly captured its emotion and energy. In addition to his solo work, Cohen played a handful of songs from his New Hampshire band, Notches, such as “Almost Ruined Everything,” “Big City,” and the incredibly catchy “Perfectly.”
The show’s two full bands put on equally energetic performances. Coming all the way from Olympia Washington, Special Moves played a fun set that incorporated audience participation into two of their songs. Dressed in matching “The President is a Fucking Asshole” shirts, Me in Capris closed things out. Their setlist included many tracks from their album For Those Who Think You, and ended with the song “Little Faith, A Bit of Romance.” Overall, the night showcased a diverse set of acts and sounds, making for an all around good time.
