Time to update your iTunes libraries, kiddies. Boston fuzz queens formerly known as The Fagettes, are now going by the moniker The Barbazons.
With “Fagettes”, the magic didn’t work as well. People who I presumptuously assumed would “get it” and join in on the joke didn’t bite. I’ve argued over the name with family members, as would-be listeners have argued over it with fans. Every couple months we get told to go screw: “Sorry, the name won’t fly at our venue,” or “I saw kids tearing down flyers,” or “The touring band freaked out when they saw the lineup.” A siren goes off and the band convenes at Fagette World Headquarters to re-evaluate what the hell we’re doing.

Help them christen the new name at their show this Thursday at the Middle East. They’re on a bill with the newly rerejuvenated Prefab Messiahs. They’ll also be debuting a new track along with the new name: “Bad Catholics” is a fuzzy tongue-in-cheek rocker that shows they’re heading in a new direction. Their new album, Avec Plaisir, is out on April 21.
