I mean, don’t you just love Woodsist? Founder Jeremy Earl (frontman of Woods) knows what he’s doing- everything his label puts out is intentional. From Real Estate’s self titled debut, to White Fence’s Family Perfume, to the growing Woods discography- Woodsist puts out a specific brand of lo-fi indie rock . A few newsy things to cover this morning.
1) The new album from Woods, With Light and With Love, is being released this time next week, April 15th. Woods has shared the title track to the record, the third song they’ve previewed. “With Light and With Love” is 9 minutes long, far longer than most recorded Woods tracks. Whereas their earlier albums were pop snippets of the longer jams they put on live, this track goes the distance in the studio- I can’t wait to hear it played when they come to the Sinclair on May 14th (with Quilt!).
2) The 2014 Woodsist Festival has been announced. Now in its fifth year, the festival will again take place in Big Sur, California, on August 5th and 6th. Lineup includes: Woods, Angel Olsen, White Fence, Skygreen Leopards, Kevin Morby, Real Estate, Foxygen, Little Wings, Steve Gunn, and Meg Baird. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, April 15th. There are a TON of festivals these days, huh? Needless to say, this would be my top choice: forget the hassle of the mega music festival, all you need is this modest collection of stellar musicians, playing in a beautiful, intimate setting (see above).
