Last Wednesday night, Mothers played Great Scott with Lala Lala in the first of a month long stretch of shows in celebration of their new release, Render Another Ugly Method. And the captivating two-band-bill did not disappoint.
With the upcoming September release of their full length, The Lamb, Chicago’s Lala Lala played many new songs, giving fans a taste of what to expect from the forthcoming album. Coming off of their recent release, Mothers’ set was full of new songs as well, with tracks from Render Another Ugly Method sounding even more gripping when performed live. They opened with the band’s frontperson, Kristine Leschper, alone on the stage, playing “IT IS A PLEASURE TO BE HERE,” followed by the full band joining in for “CIRCLE ONCE.” Other highlights from the set included older fan favorites such as “It Hurts Until it Doesn’t” and “No Crying in Baseball.”
