Today, Pavement announced the upcoming release of The Secret History, Vol. 1, a 30-track album composed of rarities from their Slanted and Enchanted days. The double LP is the first in a series of five upcoming releases, each of them featuring b-sides and deep cuts from different periods in the band’s history. The series aims to supplement all of Pavement’s albums with accompanying rarities in order to pay tribute to the band’s full body of work. The Secret History, Vol. 1 features recordings from John Peel Sessions and a 1992 concert at Brixton Academy, and 25 out of the album’s 30 tracks have never before been released on vinyl.

The upcoming first installment also features liner notes and short essays by founding members Stephen Malkmus and Scott Kanberg (a.k.a. Spiral Stairs), and its gatefold was designed by Rob Carmichael (Animal Collective, Real Estate, Dirty Projectors).
