Last week, Girlpool played The Sinclair as part of their What Chaos is Imaginary tour. On the road with them were Hatchie and Claud. The audience was enthusiastic about the two openers, showing strong support for both Claud’s solo performance and Hatchie’s dream pop set.
When Girlpool began to set up, leads Cleo Tucker and Harmony Tividad stood side by side in matching white outfits in center stage, creating a dramatic mood as the lighting shifted and the band began to play. Fans of the new record were happy to hear new tracks like “Lucy’s” and the title track, “What Chaos is Imaginary,” as well as older songs from the group’s catalogue.
And despite the efforts of one fan who continuously yelled out a request for “Soup” from the mezzanine throughout the night, the track didn’t make it onto the main setlist. But the fan was rewarded with a bass only version of the song from Tividad during the encore while Tucker tuned up for the group’s closing few songs. The night ended with a powerful live version of “123,” the opening track of 2017’s Powerplant.
