Last Friday, Japanese Breakfast played the first of two back to back sold out shows at The Sinclair with New York-based LVL UP and Philadelphia-based Radiator Hospital, both of whom joined Japanese Breakfast for both nights. Commenting on the exceptional turnout, vocalist Michelle Zauner proudly boasted, “we’ve never not sold out the Sinclair,” grinning with a smile that didn’t leave her face for the duration of the performance. Despite not having released any new music since the band’s last stop at The Sinclair back in October, the crowd showed up early and enthusiastically. The band wasted no time jumping into singles “Machinist” and “Road Head” early on in the set before closing with a single-song encore of a cover so perfectly suited to their sound it could have been written by them: the Cranberries’ “Dreams.”
