As far as Soccer Mommy frontwoman Sophie Allison is concerned, 2018 has been a phenomenal year. After the release of her new album, Clean, back in March, Allison has continued to see herself flourish throughout the indie-rock scene. Opening for noted musicians such as Liz Phair and Paramore, Allison has found herself performing in front of larger crowds than she could’ve ever imagined. And just last week, Clean was ranked fourth in Paste Magazine’s “50 Best Albums of 2018”.
On Friday, December 7th, Soccer Mommy graced the stage of her sold out show at Brighton Music Hall, grinning from ear to ear at the sight of a packed crowd. Allison immediately created an amusing environment, providing witty banter and commentary between each of her songs that kept the crowd chuckling.
Clean deals with universally relatable topics such as the struggles of entering adulthood and tackling with one’s identity, allowing listeners to easily insert themselves into each track. Allison’s lyrics resemble confessional diary entries that tell vivid stories hauntingly similar to whoever has chosen to take a listen. Whether you’re currently dealing with the struggles of growing up or you’re looking back at the memories of your youth, Clean is an album that is able to grasp at each of our heartstrings.
