Amiright? is a lo-fi, indie rock band based in Southern Maine formed by cousins Quinn Farwell and Noah Grenier-Farwell. The two began playing music around one another as teenagers, each initially intending to pursue their own separate endeavors, and eventually decided to merge and form a band together. They would alternate which instrument they would play depending on who wrote the song. They recently brought on bass player, Josh Hall, while Quinn and Noah continue to switch back and forth on drums and guitar. Here, we premiere their new album, AMIWRONG.
AMIWRONG, collects many of the songs that Quinn and Noah have played together over the years at their live shows, which date back to 2015 when they played a small festival in Peru, Maine. The lyrics on the album are often comical and simple, backed by catchy drum beats and groovy, alien-like guitar riffs, like in the song “I Can’t Dress Myself.” The song “Cujo the Dog,” Quinn says, is “about my neighbor’s dog named Cujo that wouldn’t let me walk past it when I was a kid, and the lyrics are basically always ad-libbed and never the same.” They also mention how live audiences may think the lyrics “Do you want to pet my onion?” in “The Onion Song” are gross, but it’s legitimately about an onion and not an innuendo. They added, “We make rock songs that have something endearing about them with the character of our band members.” Quinn and Noah recorded all the songs themselves at Quinn’s parents’ home using their friend’s “traveling studio.” Their next show will be on Thursday, March 22 at Hella Good Tacos in Portland, Maine. AMIWRONG will be available on Spotify and Bandcamp starting March 16, and can be listened to on Soundcloud below.
