Who hasn’t been at a gig and thought, “This is sick, but it’s so humid in this sweaty dive bar. I sure wish I could rock out while taking a dip in the water. Maybe work on a quick tan?” Well, your opportunity is here: on 9/7 local indie punkers Beached Boy will play a show with Dionysia poolside at the Verb Hotel. The gig is part of the Boston Music Awards Promoter Series Residency, co-presented by the BMAs and Ryan Agate, who booked Beached Boy for this.

While the members of Beached Boy have known each other for awhile, things really kicked off from them when the band’s vocalist/guitarist, Brendan, moved back to Boston in 2014 after spending some time in Ireland for graduate studies. Some of the songs he wrote in Dublin laid the foundation for Beached Boy’s eventual style. After that, according to Brendan, the band, “jammed for a little more than a year, jointly coming up with new material, before playing [their] first show in an Allston basement in 2016.” Nowadays, they’re usual suspects at O’Brien’s Pub in Allston.

To prep for this super fun gig, Beached Boy are ready to release a new single called “Dizzy,” an end-of-summer jam which they recorded at the Metal Shop in Philadelphia with Ian Farmer (Modern Baseball and Slaughter Beach, Dog). Described by the band as “marina rock,” the song follows a driving drum beat, swirling in yearning lyrics and percussive guitars that coalesce into an anthemic chorus. It drops some references to Brendan’s time in Dublin (“our minds are prone to sink beneath the Liffey” sticks out as particularly vivid – albeit heavy – imagery). In 2017, the band released an EP called Open Island, which you can listen to on their Bandcamp page. Since then, they released a cover of “Little Saint Nick” on A Very Allston Allston Christmas, Vol. 3. “Dizzy” marks the band’s first release since then.

Before getting to this sick gig, be sure to RSVP (it’s free!), and don’t forget your bathing suit! It starts at 5:45 PM, so that leaves plenty of time to lounge in the sun. Listen to “Dizzy” below, and keep an eye out for future releases from Beached Boy.
