In a world where we survive this snowpocalypse with only friendship and public transportation to spare, seeing Forts/Gainesville  headline Great Scott TOMORROW alongside Julie RhodesMolasses Jones and Nicholas Ward (of The Furniture) would be you first step toward thawing that recently isolated heart of yours.

And, in fact, it should be. You’ll feel it when you get there. You’ll feel it when you get that feeling.

For clarification’s sake, Forts/Gainesville (not to be confused with some sort of small-town ratio) is the rustic rock project of Brian Barthelmes and Matt Raskopf. Both are also members of Boston-á-la-Brooklyn Tallahassee with travellers’ beards to prove it. But don’t let the slew of towns mentioned fool you. Forts/Gainesville is local, and happy to be your hosting neighbor.

The duo’s sound balances nicely between that of porch singing and garage experimenting. It’s inventive but still familiar, for how can two men harmonizing to plucked guitar lines not make any innocent bystander feel at home? Check out last year’s aptly named Welcome To EP, for a warm listen and a more direct description of what I’m so desperately trying to say.

Aside from anticipating Forts/Gainesville’s set, attendees can also get hyped about a little more at the show. According to some moderate social media investigation, the duo will also be releasing a “special edition something,” predicted to be an exclusive audio/visual project from the band! Refer to the image above for further clues/confusion.

And let us not neglect the rest of Friday’s killer bill. The soulful stylings of Julie Rhodes are sure to bring out the modern blues in all present while tracks off of her 2014 EP Who’s That Yonder should do right by all of us that need to calm down this time of year. Fresh off recording her first Tiny Desk Concert video this month, she’s also just a really big deal.

And if none of that cracks a smile, surely harmonicas will. Both members of Allston-based outfit Molasses Jones specialize in the instrument and all the endearment that comes with it. Don’t miss out on hearing the novelty of their self-titled EP (released Jan. 18th) live, banjo and all.

As for some representation from across the river, Cambridge native Nicholas Ward is opening the show. If his individual songwriting is at all reflective of his project The Furniture’s textured rock, early arrivers will be in for a pleasing set of knee-bobbing approval.

With all that said, here are some repeats and deets: It’s TOMORROW (Friday 1/30) at Great Scott (21+). Doors are at 9:30. Music starts at 10:00. Show up and be merry. You’ve braved the storm.
