AS TEMPTED AS I AM TO WRITE THIS WHOLE PREVIEW IN ALL CAPS, I’LL ONLY USE THEM TO ANNOUNCE THAT MATH THE BAND IS PLAYING A SHOW WITH HORSE THE BAND AT THE MIDDLE EAST CLUB TOMORROW NIGHT.
The Providence-based electronic punk duo Math the Band is on a short tour this month supporting Horse the Band on some dates. When they announced this tour, they included an ominous note:
“FOR SOME OF YOU, THIS WILL BE YOUR LAST CHANCE TO SEE MATH THE BAND PLAYING AS YOU NOW KNOW IT.”
While we all may hate change, with Math the Band, it definitely means only good things are on the horizon (such as going back to school for members Kevin Steinhauser and Justine Mainville, and taking time to record new music). Their shows are full of powerful, energetic, short songs that often get them lumped into the dance music category. Which isn’t necessarily wrong (or a bad thing), because you’ll definitely work up a sweat jumping around to their tunes. But there’s more to their sets than computer-aided rock n’ roll. Stenheuser usually breaks at least four guitar strings each show, Mainville smashes a floor tom while somehow smiling and screaming at the same time, and the crowd is screaming and freaking out right back at them. Since they’re from the area, there’s a greater chance of seeing them again soon, but there’s really no better time than now.The show got moved from Upstairs to Downstairs, so there are still some tickets available.
In advance of Math the Band’s show tomorrow, Kevin and Justine completed some writing prompts and showed off their talents as visual artists below. I think their teacher would give them a ✓++++++ :
Their brand new video for “Stupid and Weird” was released today, and you can have your mind altered by watching it below:
