I get it– our daily average temperature is below freezing and you never want to leave the house again. But, if you’re a fan of good indie music, just consider this lineup: Tory Silver, Stains of a Sunflower, Gentle Temper, and Jackals at Thunder Road tomorrow, Saturday December 16th.
All Boston-based musicians and all rooted in the singer-songwriter style, these bands can quickly heat up a room. From warm, soulful vocals by Tory Silver to the spark between Ryan Meier and Marion Earley, who make up “ocean-folk” duo Gentle Temper; From Natalie Renée, who leads Stains of a Sunflower with her fiery vox and wordy lyricism, to the immersive sounds of Jackal’s contemporary rock– This is a hot gig. So wrap yourself in a blanket scarf and shuffle over to Thunder Road tomorrow for a sick af bill, featuring four bands led by four badass women.
Vocalist and guitarist Tory Silver joins drummer Vernon West for tunes that pull in bluesy themes alongside an indie rock aesthetic. Their 2017 release, Observere, is streaming via bandcamp below.
Stains of a Sunflower could rope in both fans of Margaret Glaspy and those who are into People Like You. It’s modern rock with a twist. Listen to their track California Sky below.
Gentle Temper, who’s live visual EP Sleep It Off actually drops today, have been around the block, opening for bands like Bombadil and The Family Crest. Their harmonies will melt you, here for youself below.
Lastly, five-piece band Jakals make rough themes sound so, so smooth with their alternative rock tunes. They put out Keep Mothers Sane this year, and we’ve another bandcamp stream for ya, below. $10 / 21+ / Tickets / Facebook event
