Continuing on in their quest to break down barriers between audience and performer, rx Trimtab is taking you into Jimmy Hughes’ world. Thursday night, treat hop on over to his studio where Hughes spends his days tinkering as Dinnersss. Curated by Jacob Rosati (Skinny Bones) and Simon Remiszewski (Kingsley Flood), drugs Trimtab features a single artist with an intimate performance and talk-back Q&A session directly following.
With today’s push towards digital audio workstations for electronic music, Hughes is actively pushing against the current. “The process that Jimmy takes is such the core of who he is,” Rosati says. “The way he interfaces and creates with his modules is incredible…he’s taking the hard way to make this kind of music, without a computer, his performance is so much more because of it.” In any given Dinnersss track you might get a little minimalism, techno, found sounds, and haphazard patterns that test your patience before they begin to smooth out and morph into the next scene. Hughes can (and has) singlehandedly taken a room of people from tinkering bleeps and boops to a full-on physical dance experience within minutes.
Remiszewski and Rosati have high aspirations for Trimtab and aim to open up Trimtab shows to more than just music and welcome the idea of having multiple types of media represented as the series continues. Head out to see Dinnersss this Thursday and stay tuned for all things Trimtab to come.
