You know what they say about Allston: the more things change, viagra the more they…. change. The area could soon be saying goodbye to a favorite Karaoke spot, prostate as DoReMi on Cambridge Street appears to be on the chopping block.

On March 17th, drugs the site’s owner The Arcand Family/Allston LLC submitted a “Small Project Review” application to the Boston Redevelopment Authority. The application calls for the destruction of DoReMi to make room for a four story, forty-unit apartment complex that would also house street-level retail space.

The new complex would have underground parking for forty cars, and also feature a spacious roof deck. Five units would be designated as affordable housing, and the cost of the project would be approximately $7 million.

Allston has seen it’s share of redevelopment recently, with a slew of Yuppie-friendly buildings opening in the “Green District” on the Allston/Brighton/Brookline border, and Harvard kicking off its ambitious Barry’s Corner development project late last year.

Do Ra Me’s current Cambridge Street location is not particularly pedestrian friendly, and is notoriously congested during many hours of the day. The Arcand Family will likely have to address these issues before the Redevelopment Authority in order to win approval for the plan.

The inclusion of affordable units will help, as a shortage of this type of housing was listed as one of the Boston’s most pressing challenges in a recent report by the Boston Foundation – a fact the Development Authority is certainly aware of.

Standing to benefit from the construction of the new complex are the small businesses that have recently flourished just down the street in Union Square, including Root, FOMU, Deep Elum, and even Twin Donuts, which will soon receive a $200,000 facelift.
