Less than a year from last performing in Cambridge, WHY? Returned last week to bring their cerebral hip-hop to the Sinclair. Since then, WHY? has released an expanded version of 2017 record Moh Lhean, which includes remixes of tracks from a number of artists including Kishi Bashi, Baths and Paper Tiger. So, much to the pleasure of long-time fans in attendance, this meant a set filled with songs spanning WHY’s nearly 15 year career, complete with sing-alongs to spoken word-esque tracks like “By Torpedo or Crohn’s” and “The Vowels Pt. 2.”
Equally impressive was Open Mike Eagle, one of the collaborators on the extended Moh Lhean album, who is now supporting WHY? on tour. The self-described “art rapper” performed tracks off his excellent late 2017 release Brick Body Kids Still Daydream, as well as old favorites including “Ziggy Starfish (Anxiety Raps)” and “Very Much Money.”
