Today we’ve got a new video from local duo, Rye Pines. The track is “Where We Bend and Bow” off of their debut EP A Portrait of Dissonance as a Young Man. The aptly titled record explores a line between depression and contentment filled out with Edward Mcguire on vocals, guitar and bass while Alex Page pounds away on his kit.
The director and editor, K8 Howley, notes, “[This video] was shot in Cambridge and on the highways between Boston and New York. The video’s concept grew out of the language of public space and the way it mediates someone’s inner life. This imagery went well with [Mcguire’s] lyrics that personify cigarette smoke. Both elements are ordinary but occupy moments of reflection.” This new video is a dizzying take on life in the crossroads.
Jak Ritger, director of photography, adds, “[The new album] captures the frustration of being a recent graduate and working as an artist. ‘Where We Bend We and Bow’ definitely felt like on of those late night drunken taxi rides home through Allston, a little unsure of the driver. Filming the video I might have channelled that a bit. We are super excited about the Cassette release with Bob Records, and all the big shows, new music and videos that are coming soon!”
Take a gander at the new video below and don’t miss Rye Pines opening for PAWS this Thursday 9/4 at the Middle East Upstairs!
