Free Pizza’s “Boston, buy MA” was the soundtrack to this past summer for me in Allston rock city, so needless to say, this session was a special one. We got together in the funky basement of the legendary Whitehaus in Jamaica Plain (where the band resides and practices), on a sticky summer night in July. The charisma and overall “chillness” of the trio is undeniable, and seeing them perform in such an intimate atmosphere was very impressive. At first glimpse, their catchy, upbeat, punk jams appear effortless, but as I jumped in for close ups and instrument shots, I was blown away by the complexity of Jesus and Santiago’s bouncy lead lines, as well as Nick’s rapid chops at the hi hats. The Bufu bad boiz cranked out some jams from their most recent LP, and were also nice enough to give us a sneak peak of one of their new unreleased songs, “Oh Yeah, That Deep Breath”.
