British dance-rockers Metronomy with one of the greatest directors of our time, Michel Gondry (you definitely know him from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). This is Gondry’s first music video since directing Björk’s “Crystalline” (2011). Gondry’s mind is a starkly beautiful and fantastical place and now we get to explore another chunk of it through the glam, uptempo, foot-stomping title track “Love Letters” from Metronomy’s forthcoming 2014 release.
The video was done in a long single shot (remember when lip dubs were all the rage? I digress) and rotates around the band playing inside of a box with different scenes and cut outs painted on each side. Metronomy plays in a forest, on stage, driving in their van, and on your laptop in this video and it’s pretty cute. There is a striking resemblance to aesthetics from The Science of Sleep (go watch this film immediately if you never have) here. I see you, Michel. I see you.
Like what you hear/see? Metronomy will be stopping by the Paradise on May 17.
