Environmental degradation, gender dysphoria, mutual assured destruction. Vile Creature play the sort of depressive sludge metal that conveys the feeling of living in, and out of step with, a society built upon systems of oppression. Unapologetically queer, the Hamilton, Ontario two-piece draws upon lived experience (as well as a formidable rig of amps and effects) to craft their beautifully bleak and brutal sound. We caught up with Vile Creature while they were on tour with Iowa City’s Aseethe, and they were kind enough to perform “Circuits, Bending & Breaking” for us off of their latest record Cast of Static and Smoke. The record, released alongside a post-apocalyptic dystopian short story, is available now from Halo of Flies.
