When Kyle Morton was a small boy, an insect bite changed his life forever. Undiagnosed for years, the Lyme disease transferred through the bite wreaked havoc on his body, cutting off possibilities, shaving away precious time, and placing Morton eye-to-eye with the imminent reality of death.
The lineup featured at The Sinclair on Thursday was just as much a collection of musicians as it was weirdoes, which is to be expected from the U.S.A. and Canada Burgerama “Caravan of Stars Tour 2013.”
Chomping at the bit to cover my first show for Allston Pudding, I stepped through the Sinclair doors almost a full hour before the openers took the stage and three before headliners, The Ballroom Thieves. And inside was an uncanny semblance to a typical post-prom party. Two by two awkward couples were posted up against the wall, on the stairs, at the bar, slowly milking alcohol for all its social lubricant clout.
It’s easy to take one listen to Daughter’s “Landfill” and write Elena Tonra off as an overly emotional girl pining over her last breakup. Yet when Daughter came through Boston on Friday night, she proved that expectation wrong.
