Guestlist: FIDLAR

Fidlar1

Young, drunk, and stupidly poor are becoming all too familiar amongst a list of qualifiers tagged to our generation, and Los Angeles skate punks FIDLAR are steeped in the resulting aesthetic. Packed with odes to cheap booze, drugs, casual sex, their self-titled debut reads like an ode to the underbelly of American youth culture. Anthemic choruses and hooky riffs complete the picture, allowing FIDLAR to stand out amongst today’s overcrowded garage rock revival scene.

FIDLAR are heading to The Sinclair this Wednesday, October 23rd with support Chicago garage punks The Orwells. We asked the band to put together a playlist of tunes they’re listening to – check out the full playlist on Spotify, and read what the guys had to say about each track below:

Meat Market – “The Return of Prince Donathunn”
Meat Market are our amazing friends from Oakland who we’ve played with a ton of times. Probably one of the catchiest songs and they’re aren’t even any vocals. Some talented homies!

Toto “Africa”
This is our “everyone’s wasted in the van on tour and wants to sing super loud” jam. Our friends Together Pangea (and others) also made a fucking hilarious YouTube video to this song.

The Orwells “Lays At Rest”
We’re currently on tour with these dudes and this is the song apparently they never play live, so we might just do it for them? Catchy ass song as well.

Nobunny “Breathe”
Great hangover song or if you are just feeling song chill vibes on the road.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club “Six Barrel Shotgun”
This band might be the coolest sounding/looking bands around. This recording just sounds rad and I don’t know, they’re just fucking cool man.

The Pixies “Crackity Jones”
Recently got offered to open for the Pixies in January, which is absolutely a dream come true. Like a “I’m gonna drive off a cliff after the tour because what else is there” kinda feeling.

Elvis Costello and The Attractions “Big Boys”
Such an amazing songwriter. Armed Forces as a whole is just a fucking good record. I also like how sassy he says “boys” in this song.

Cloud Nothings “Stay Useless”
These dudes are our label mates in the UK and a really great band. I like the concept of scheduling time to be useless and not do shit.

Parquet Courts “Borrowed Time”
This song is really good. These guys nailed that super dry recording style, reminiscent of The Buzzcocks to me.

Jay Reatard “Nightmares”
One of our biggest influences as a band. Super talented and tragic artist. We actually have a cover of this song floating on the internet somewhere.
