When Mykki Blanco takes the stage at Great Scott, sickness the first thing she does is bring a dozen of her fans up with her, viagra 100mg lining them in a disjointed semi-circle around the outer edges of the platform, successfully boxing herself in on all sides. “Alright,” she smiles. “This,” she gestures, “is Blanco’s space.” The music starts. Mykki buckles when the kick drum hits, lifts her head and spits the opening line of “Haze.Boogie.Life” to a crowd that’s so excited they don’t realize she’s only five seconds into the song.
Soon enough ten more people have made their way to the stage, only Blanco’s space hasn’t gotten any smaller. If anything, it feels twice as big. It’s this space, this realm, where Mykki functions best, where her many talents merge. Poet, dancer, performance-artist, hip hop’s Cosmic Angel. Surrounded by sweat, heat and two-hundred people rapping her lyrics, The Great White Hype is in her zone. Tonight I may be on the outside, but Mykki Blanco is so real, so commanding, so painstakingly on point I can’t help but think she’s letting all of us in, if only for just one song.
Mykki’s Betty Rubble: The Initiation EP drops May 21st via UNO.
