REVIEW: Best Coast + Wavves @ Royale (2/19)

We’ve braved through the below zero weather–the only touch of it this winter–and emerged on the other side, though not exactly victorious. Winds still bluster through Boston, so the sunny grace of a harem of born and bred Californian bands made for quite the treat at the Royale on the 19th.

PREMIERE: Waywords & Meansigns “Finnegans Wake”

Boston is often dubbed a “literary city”, owing to its rich history. This moniker finds home in the city’s residents: bursting with endless creativity. A collective of artists, calling themselves Waywords & Meansigns, have decided to set James Joyce’s novel “Finnegan’s Wake” to music. A goliath project (or “proj”, as director Derek Pyle calls it), it’s set to be released on the author’s birthday, February 2nd.

Guerilla Toss Announce New Album, “Eraser Stargazer”

After a slew of singles and an EP that had us dancing, the band has announced plans to release Eraser Stargazer via DFA Records on March 4th. The album embraces the nuances that find home in their sound: Eraser was recorded over a six-week immersion in upstate New York, according to a press release. Lyrics that navigate the complexities of young adulthood accompany their screaming instruments. Climactic and tense, Guerilla Toss creates music that’s bursting at the seams.
