PREMIERE: Wilder Maker- “Slow Life”

1466065399-1

Urban folkateers Wilder Maker may call Brooklyn home, but they began right here in Boston and continue to have many ties. So much so that they will be celebrating the release of their new LP/cassette Year of Endless Light on Wednesday at Great Scott. The new album is a quirky, but sophisticated melange of acoustic simplicity, buoyant horn arrangements, and rich harmonies. All of these things come to life beautifully on “Slow Life,” a track that we are very happy to premiere today. There’s such a natural and optimistic feel to this track, with joy seeping through despite the haunting baritone vocals, almost the way you’d expect a hybrid of The National and The Head and the Heart to sound like. The entire album is truly a delight, and not just the way you expect from a folk album. There’s compositional grasp that exceeds just a handful of chords and a catchy chorus, which leads to an engaging and heartfelt listen all the way through. To pre-order Year of Endless Light on vinyl or cassette, visit Wilder Maker’s bandcamp page. To experience it live in the flesh, come to Great Scott on Wednesday, September 11th as they play with The New Lights, And Lay Duo, and Skinny Bones.
