Continuing to build his solo career post-Das Racist, Himanshu Suri, or as we know him, Heems, is putting the finishing touches on his first full length, aptly titled Eat Pray Thug.

Making his moniker known through the quirky, pop culture fueled hip hop group Das Racist, the Queens-based activist has spent the three years since the group’s breakup working on mixtapes and collaborations with other groups, such as Vampire Weekend. He also embarked on a physical as well as personal journey during this time, traveling throughout South Asia and reconnecting with his Indian roots. The journey led to the construction of this introspective, aggressively outspoken debut album, set to be released March 10th via Heems’s very own label, Greedhead.

The word “thug” in particular piques your interest, and is representative of the tense racial discussion present throughout the work. The track “Home” boasts both the contributed work and vocals from Blood Orange‘s Dev Hynes. The album is uneven in the most artfully precise way. Stream it now over at NPR.
