Treasure Island Festival: Day 2

Day two was kicked off by another local act rocking all black (which seems to be kind of trendy these days?), Cathedrals. Led by Johnny Hwin and Brodie Jenkins who met and formed the band in college, they laid down some classic electro/indie pop to help shake off the cobwebs and get the festival engine churning again.

IMG_3628White Denim graced us with some rad rock n’ roll on a hot main stage. These guys have a very unique sound that is hard to put a genre on it, but at times I  thought it sounded like the Grateful Dead, which is always a good thing! I was glad to catch the Texans after missing them at another festival earlier this year.

I ended up sticking around the Tunnel stage to get a good view to catch one of our favorites “Los Growlers.” This was to me one of the best shows on the bill, and a lot of other people agreed. With their new album “Chinese Fountain,” these crazy dudes are hotter then ever. People were holding signs for DMtina, and wearing Chinese take out containers on their heads. It was a funky scene for sure, as they played songs from all albums and left the crowd wanting more! They were pretty bummed they had a short set, and kind of made a joke of it how they had to get off so soon, but people were very pleased that they made it after their tour bus broke down and they had to scramble to get there. Thanks dudes!

As the sun was setting, I took a couple laps for some more shots before alt-J took the stage. Thinking I was gunna get a good view heading there early, I was shocked to find the crowd was already there! People sitting around on their blankets thinking they’re the only ones at the festival mucking it up. I weaseled my way up there pissing people off as I cut them off, but whatever. With their impressive sophomore album out “I’m All Yours”, these UK rockers have definitely proved they are here to stay. The crowd went from vibing out to some of their softer songs (“Something Good”, “Matilda”) to getting really rowdy for some of their bigger jams like “Breezeblocks” and their new single “Left Hand Free”. Go pick up their new album if you haven’t already!

So like before, I danced my way closer pissing people off, but hey, it’s not everyday you get to see Ernest Greene.  It’s an experience that everyone should experience.  I would also like to say I’m sorry to my neighbors for getting really rowdy at times.. oh wait no I’m not 😉

After two long days of rad music, my were feet tired,  but my heart was happy. Thanks to Treasure Island and the city of San Francisco for being so chill and beautfiul. Until next time.. chow!!
