Whenever I try to explain why Ed Schrader’s Music Beat is so fantastic live, I find myself struggling to find the words. There’s the power that comes with the simplicity of a two-piece band, the jumps between shouting and whispering, and the dramatic lighting Schrader employs. Thankfully Toni Tiemann did a great job of capturing their last show here in Boston. For those who are more into visuals than words though (yet have read this far in the article), Schrader’s gone ahead and given perfect insight into one of their sets in the band’s new “Televan” video.
Ed Schrader and Devlin Rice play “Televan,” a cut from their sophomore album, Party Jail, with a full-volume force that’s impossible to turn away from. There’s the same fierce lighting as that at their shows, but the HD camera lets you get a better look at their faces than you’re often able to catch in person. Make sure you have enough room around you. The two will teach you how to do the televan, but we’re not quite sure how to nail it unless you’re naturally good at hovering.
