The Pixies are playing TT the Bear’s tonight

In a surprise early-Thursday-morning move, Massachusetts legends the Pixies have announced that they’re going to play TT the Bear’s tonight, one last time, to say farewell to the legendary Cambridge club, which is closing its doors for good this July.

“T.T. the Bear’s is one of the clubs that broke us,” said Pixies’ Joey Santiago, according to a press release, “and we played there many, many times.  And all the great bands that we saw there, we have a lot of wonderful memories of the place.”

You, too, can celebrate all your great memories of TT’s with Frank Black and co.–for the small price of $55 a pop. But wait! It gets even more *exclusive*— the only way to purchase these economy-price tickets is to head to the Orpheum today at 2PM, when they’ll be going onsale. No presale, no raffle, no Ticketmaster– just you and your lame excuse for running out of work to get downtown in time. There’s also a two-ticket limit per purchase, and both of those people need to be at the Orpheum, because TTs won’t let you in tonight without both a ticket and a wristband, with which you’ll be marked upon purchase.

To quote a famous Pixies song, “Let the Hunger Games begin!”

  26. This actually just makes me mad. Who the hell can just leave work and go stand in line? Why would they do this? So basically only unemployed people, or students can get these tickets. How depressing.

  37. I was so excited when I first heard about this show early this morning. I’ve been wanting to see the Pixies forever.  Then when I heard about how the tickets needed to be obtained, my excitement grew to sadness, then anger.
    When I heard the tickets needed to be bought in person, I thought “well, that kinda sucks. I work… how can I possibly get there to get tickets?” Then I got to ok from work to go get them, if I could make up the time on Saturday, which I would consider to be totally worth it.
    Then I reread the terms and saw that BOTH people needed to be there to get wristbands if you’re buying two tickets… WHY? Why give the option to buy two tickets at all? It just makes no sense. So I can buy a ticket for myself I guess, and tell my BF “too bad you couldn’t get out of work”.
    I imagine a lot of people standing in line for tickets now didn’t read that, and will be MIGHTY angry when they realize that second ticket they can buy is useless unless the other person is with them.  Have fun with that one, Orpheum ticket seller person. I don’t envy you.
    As for the Pixies, I guess I’ll probably never see them at this point. Would’ve been nice.

  44. My friend Dave (you know Dave!) was shut down 20 people from the door. Tears. Gotta say I’m
    ok after their face melting Boston Calling show for probably closer than I would be at TTs. I’ll deal. Just gotta get U2 tickets and I’ll be fine. Plus going to Spoon tonight anyhoo.

  45. I was around 340 or so in the line, and there was probably another 100 or so behind me. I missed out by roughly 25 people or so and was there from about 1:00 to 3:0ush

  46. I got some great interviews with people in line and have my ticket/wristband. Anyone know someone at the venue who can give me permission to keep shooting this story? The website says I only need permission from the venue.

  52. Same here. I was the first person to get shut out. I was next in line when they closed to door. Just dumb luck.
